Gannon University Holds 16th Annual Light Up A.J.’s Way Event

Gannon University will light up this Christmas season with the 16th annual Light Up A.J.'s Way event on Friday, Dec. 1st at 6:30 p.m.!
The event is held annually by Gannon's Activities Programming Board (APB), which partners with the Erie chapter of Make-A-Wish to help raise funds for the organization. Each year, an honorary Make-A-Wish child flips the switch to light the thousands of lights that have been strung on the trees throughout the walkway, turning it into a holiday wonderland. This year the students raised $1,500.00 for the organization.
“In doing so we are giving children another reason to smile and brighten their spirits as this may be the first holiday season they are spending in unfamiliar territory like a hospital” said by Jolene Sinclair.
The students of APB have been busy planning for the event and are looking forward to sharing in the experience with the members of community. "This event holds a special place in my heart as my brother is a Make A Wish child at another chapter and I am so excited to give back and partner with Make A Wish foundation as they have been such a blessing within my family personally” said by Jolene Sinclair (Family Events Chair).
There will be caroling before the lighting ceremony, with cookies and hot chocolate to follow being served in Gannon's Beyer Hall.
This event will be free and open to the Gannon and Erie communities and will be held on A.J.'s Way is located between West Seventh and West Eighth streets between Peach and Sassafras streets. “It is especially important that during the holiday season we make it a point to not focus on receiving gifts but rather focus our attention on giving back to others and why not start in our community of Erie” said by Jolene Sinclair.
