Six ROTC seniors from Gannon University were commissioned in the United States Army as Distinguished Military Graduates (DMG) at Commencement during the 2016-17 Academic Year.

The award winners, all commissioned as Second Lieutenants, were Damiano Cicchinelli, Avery Craig, Ryan Davis, Reyna Lynn Palanca, Ashley Sarlo and Kyle Volkman.

Distinguished Military Graduates are those who graduate in the top 20 percent of cadets nationwide based on several criteria, including grade point average, strong performance on the Army Physical Fitness Test, college athletic participation and performance during college ROTC training.

Following their commissioning, the new second lieutenants will receive the following assignments: LT Cicchinelli will join a combat engineers unit in Florida as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve., while LT Craig will be a field artillery officer at Ft. Drum, New York. LT Davis is awaiting his assignment as an infantry officer while LT's Palanca and Sarlo will join the Army Nurse Corps. LT Volkman will attend law school at Wake Forest University and join the Judge Advocates General Corps.

The six Cadets were members of the "Pride of PA" Army SeniorROTC Battalion, which comprises ROTC units at Gannon University, Mercyhurst University and Penn State Erie -- The Behrend College. The battalion was honored in 2012 with the General Douglas MacArthur Award for excellence by the U.S. Army's Cadet Command and the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Foundation.

As the host institution for the "Pride of PA" Battalion of the U.S. Army ROTC, Gannon University's program offers specialized leadership training through both course work and related activities.
