University Rivals Unite for a Great Cause

Gannon University will host its sixth annual Linked by Pink 5k Run and 1-mile Walk, 9 a.m. Saturday April 9. Gannon's Doctor of Physical Therapy program and rival Mercyhurst University's sports medicine department, unite to sponsor the race as an effort to raise awareness and support breast cancer awareness.

The race will take place at Gannon's Recreation and Wellness Center and registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Maria Loya, director of the event, said Linked by Pink is a local organization, which supports those throughout the Erie community who have been affected by breast cancer.

A dedication wall will also be present for participants to dedicate their race to family and/or friends who have been affected by breast cancer. Awards will be given to the top three female and male participants of the 5k run.

All proceeds will benefit the local breast cancer organization Linked by Pink. According to the organization's website, Linked by Pink is a supportive community where any woman diagnosed with breast cancer can find comfort and support from others going through or has gone through the same experience.

Registration for the event is open and is $20 per person. T-shirts are included in the registration while supplies last. Participants interested can visit the Linked by Pink website,, and print the registration form under Upcoming Events, found under the Events tab.
