Gannon University Students Present Marketing Plans To Because You Care

Posted: November 18, 2015

Gannon University seniors who are majoring or minoring in advertising communications will present their promotional plans to a real non-profit organization that they have been working with all semester as the culmination of their integrated marketing campaign development class.

The presentations, on Nov. 19 from 3 - 5 p.m. in Room 219 of the Waldron Campus Center, 214 W. Seventh St. will involve three groups of senior students organized into ad agencies. These student agencies will attempt to "win" the account of Because You Care, a non-profit animal rescue organization.

The students have spent hundreds of hours researching Because You Care, the competitive environment and the media available to use. They create an advertising concept and some potential articulations of that concept: ads, logos, messages and the like. It's a process that doesn't differ much from what advertising professionals worldwide do every day.

Anne O'Neill, who teaches the class, was once one of those professionals. "This exercise is very much like what these students can expect when they get outside the classroom," she said. "We can give them the experience of working with a client, developing a campaign and hopefully having that campaign selected by the client."

That selection will take place next Wednesday when Because You Care representatives will be back on campus to award the account to the winning student agency.

The public is invited you to attend all or part of the student presentations. Refreshments will be served.
