Gannon University Hosts Relay For Life

Gannon University's Relay for Life will take place on Friday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Gannon's Recreation and Wellness Center, 103 W. Fourth St.

The event, a popular fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, gets underway with a welcome and opening prayer at 1 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., Keith Taylor, Ph.D., Gannon University president, will speak in support of Relay for Life and make a special presentation. A ceremony honoring cancer survivors will begin at 5 p.m. and luminary candles will be lit at 10 p.m. in a ceremony to remember those who were lost to cancer. The day will conclude with a closing ceremony at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

On-site fundraising events and music will on offer throughout the event.

Fundraising has been going on all year long; at press time 12 teams and 255 participants have raised more than $8,000. Organizers expect 275-300 participants, many of whom will be cancer survivors, and the public is invited to participate. Registration will be available at the event and online here.
