Erie Together, Gannon University Launch Collaborative Human Service Directory

Posted: August 7, 2014

Collaboratively, United Way of Erie County, Erie Together, Gannon University have worked to launch an updated comprehensive human service directory for Erie County.

The Human Service Directory is a signature project of Erie-GAINS (Gannon Alliances to Improve Neighborhood Sustainability) that is reciprocal in nature, with benefits to both the community and the students who have worked on the project. The online directory is available at no cost to the public here:. Printed copies of the 300+ page directory are $40 each and can be ordered by emailing here.

"One of the three goals of Gannon University's Strategic Plan is to 'Engage in the Community.' The Human Service Directory is one of our initiatives which not only benefits the community by providing a valuable resource, but also provides our students with real-world, hands-on learning. This experience has helped our students gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the comprehensive resources within the community and has promoted critical thinking and social responsibility," said Carolynn Masters, Ph.D., RN, Gannon University provost and vice president of academic affairs.

"Through Erie Together discussions, it became very apparent that so many people in our community - from employers, to social service agencies, to churches, to individuals seeking supports - could benefit from easy access to a directory of local human services," said Mary Bula, Erie Together's facilitator.
