Gannon to Host 10th Annual Wellness Fair

With a new year comes a fresh start and what better way to kick that off than with a reminder of the importance of living a healthy life style? Organizers of this year's Gannon University's Wellness Fair, Hang 10 for Wellness, hope to bring a healthy mix of surf, sun, and tropical fun, with an emphasis on health and wellness for students and staff and faculty at Gannon, in the upcoming spring and summer seasons.

The fair will provide access to important health indicators such as blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, bone density scans and body mass index (BMI). Gannon faculty, staff and students will have an opportunity to measure where they stand in those areas and others during the University's annual Wellness Fair, to be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 18th.

The fair will be held in the Waldron Campus Center, 124 West 7th St., and will include more than 20 outside vendors as well as over 12 vendors from Gannon, all promoting aspects of health and wellness. Last year the event drew attention from more than 400 students, faculty and staff who all walked away with a better awareness of themselves and their lifestyle.

"The fair is designed to help raise awareness of relevant health issues, differentiate between wellness 'myths and facts' and reinforce to participants the importance of continually monitoring their numbers. Prevention is the primary goal," said Michelle B. Wagner, assistant director of recreation and wellness at Gannon. "The fair will provide our employees and students the tools to better assess their overall health and the resources to make any necessary changes."

Participants will be able to take advantage of a number of health-related screenings and will be able to participate in and have the opportunity to watch various cooking demos and fitness related activities. "We want to reinforce the idea that a healthy life style can be fun," Wagner said.
