Gannon University to Welcome High School Students for “Overknight” Visit

Posted: February 14, 2014

Nearly 100 high school seniors will get the opportunity to experience Gannon University Sunday through Monday, Feb. 16-17, courtesy of the University's Knight with Scholars program.

Knight with Scholars is an overnight program for high school students who have been accepted to Gannon and chosen for merit-based scholarship aid. The visit gives potential students a glimpse of college life, offers a closer look at campus, and allows the student visitors to learn more about Gannon's resources and opportunities. Students stay on campus to engage in the many activities that are planned, such as attending a Gannon class, and meeting with faculty and students in an academic program of their choice.

"The Knight with Scholars event is designed for scholarship recipients to visit campus, sometimes for the first time, in a unique way by participating in an overnight visit and staying with current students, engaging in fun activities, and attending classes," said Tom Camillo, director of undergraduate admissions. "The hope is that they enjoy their time and ultimately choose Gannon as the university they would like to attend in the fall."

For two days, students from Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and from as far away as New Jersey, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Florida, will experience the life of a college student.

The students will arrive for registration in the Yehl Alumni Room at the Waldron Campus Center from 4-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, and will then spend the night on campus with a current Gannon student. Sunday's activities include dinner with their student hosts from 5:45-7 p.m., and a social event with comedian Ben Hague at 7:30 p.m. in the Knight Club.

On Monday, Feb. 17, visiting students' schedule includes attending a mock lecture at 9:05 a.m. and a class within their major at 10:10 a.m. At noon, students will attend lunch in the Yehl Alumni Room with Gannon University President Keith Taylor, Ph.D., Provost Carolynn Masters, Ph.D., RN, Vice President of Mission and Ministry Reverend Michael Kesicki, and the deans from each college.
