Gannon University and The Institutes Collaborate to Integrate Curricula

Posted: February 10, 2014

Gannon University, a Catholic, Diocesan university dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service, announced its participation in The Institutes' Collegiate Studies for CPCU program, as well as its willingness to allow students to use certain AIS, Associate in Insurance Services, or CPCU, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, courses to waive up to three of the Insurance and Risk Management core courses.

"The Collegiate Studies for CPCU program is a means for students who earn a "B" or better on a course based on Institute coursework to waive up to two courses toward CPCU," said Connor Harrison, Director of Custom Products at The Institutes. "The Collegiate Studies program is has been in existence since August 2012, and there are already thirty-three colleges with over eighty courses eligible for waivers. Students with two waivers who go on to complete The Institutes' online ethics course earn the Collegiate Studies for CPCU Certificate. Gannon University supports those undergraduate students who may choose to earn the CPCU designation in the future by using The Institutes' curriculum in three of its courses: RISK 321 corresponds to CPCU 552, RISK 220 corresponds to CPCU 553 and RISK 425 corresponds to CPCU 520."

Gannon University has gone one step further by supporting those who have the CPCU designation or the appropriate AIS courses, by accepting up to nine credits toward an undergraduate business degree. "With the support and approval of the Academic Affairs Committee, the Provost, and President, Gannon University is able to recognize the academic work of individuals who have studied with The Institutes and made it easy to apply this work toward an undergraduate degree," said David Smith, Instructor in the Dahlkemper School of Business. "The Institutes curriculum's relevance to the work in the property-casualty insurance industry is unquestioned as is their academic rigor and integrity. The relationship Gannon University now has with The Institutes benefits traditional and non-traditional students who are seeking a college degree that also includes the knowledge sought in the workplace."
