GU Journalism Communications Facts

• The Journalism Communications major combines courses offered through both the English department and the Theatre and Communications Arts Department.
• Gannon Journalism Communications students have the opportunity to participate in organizations such as the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association and the American Scholastic Press Association, which allows them to see how their work stacks up against journalism students throughout the country.
• Journalism Communications students receive hands-on experience with publication through their work on The Gannon Knight, the University’s nationally recognized student newspaper, and edge the online magazine. Journalism Communications students can also exhibit their skills and talents working for 90.5 WERG, the University- owned 3,000-watt radio and streaming (www.wergfm.com) media station.
• The editor-in-chief of The Gannon Knight receives a full tuition scholarship, and scholarship opportunities are also available for members of The Knight editorial board.
• Gannon’s location in downtown Erie provides students with internship opportunities with media outlets including the Erie Times-News newspaper, as well as numerous radio stations, advertising agencies, local television affiliates, public relations firms and area nonprofit groups.
