  •  Master of Athletic Training Students

     The Gannon University Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program in Ruskin, FL, is designed to prepare students to become certified Athletic Trainers through the Board of Certification (BOC).  The MAT degree includes the didactic and clinical education experiences necessary to prepare individuals for an exciting career as a health care professional. 

    Students will learn to apply a wide variety of specific knowledge, skills and abilities in evidence-based practice, prevention and health promotion, clinical examination and diagnosis, acute care of injury and illness, therapeutic interventions, psychosocial strategies and referral, healthcare administration, and professional development and responsibility.

    The Master of Athletic Training Program features a comprehensive curriculum that has been designed to integrate formal classroom instruction, online coursework and hands on, clinical education.

    Gannon University's MAT is prepared to support incoming students with the appropriate tools to be successful in the Athletic Training profession

    According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for athletic trainers are expected to grow by 30 percent between 2010 and 2020, much faster than the average for overall occupations. Such employment trends highlight the need for Masters level athletic trainers in order to advance the fields of exercise science and athletic training.

    This job outlook highlights the increasingly important role that athletic trainers play in the prevention and care of injuries.  From the identification of concussions and injuries in younger athletes to the growth in an increasingly active middle-aged and elderly population, people of all ages will experience a need for the services of qualified athletic trainers.  Athletic trainers will continue to experience significant roles in the management, prevention, recognition and rehabilitation of injured athletes.

    Features of the Program

    • The program consists of didactic, online and clinical education learning opportunities both within and outside of the Gannon-Ruskin community.
    • The program requires a total of 65* academic credits and is designed to be completed in two years.
    • The MAT program is excited to offer a 2 year post Baccalaureate options for all students.
    • Tuition for the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program has been set at $650/credit for the 2019-2020 academic year (which includes the Summer 2019, Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters).

    *Gannon University is currently authorized by the state of Florida to offer the Master of Athletic Training program at 65 credits. Pending approval from the state of Florida, credits are subject to change.
