    • Over the past several years, graduates of Gannon’s software engineering program have a 100- percent placement rate in either employment or graduate studies.

    • Gannon University has received National Science Foundation (NSF) funding, which is used to award approximately 25 scholarships per year, each renewable for up to four years, through Gannon’s Scholars of Excellence in Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) scholarship program.

    You Will Learn

    Software engineering majors learn to apply the principles of computer science, engineering and analysis to the design, creation, testing and evaluation of software systems. Building on these foundations, the Software Engineering International Degrees (SEID) program is for students seeking a competitive edge through a unique educational experience with a powerful global dimension in software engineering. 

    Students completing this program receive two degrees. As an SEID major, you will earn your degree in either Software Engineering (BSSE) or Computer Science (BSCS) from Gannon University, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Software Technology (Studienschwerpunkt – Softwaretechnik) from Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (EUAS) in Esslingen, Germany.

    This dual degree program spans 4 1/2  years of Bachelor’s-level study, which includes one summer semester of coursework at Gannon, one year of coursework at EUAS and a summer semester at EUAS completing a paid software development internship. Since English is the global language for engineering and computer science, the language of instruction for all courses in the SEID program is English.

    You Will Experience

    You will experience both an American and European engineering education at high-quality institutions. You will complete an ABET-accredited software engineering or computer science program at Gannon and an integrated year of EUAS coursework. This year abroad includes a paid  software development internship in Esslingen, part of the greater Stuttgart metropolitan area in the industrial heart of Germany.

    You Will Achieve

    Earn two sought-after undergraduate degrees, coupled with real-world international industry experience:

    • ABET-Accredited Bachelors of Science in Software Engineering (BSSE) or Computer Science (BSCS) from Gannon.
    • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in “Software Technology” (Studienschwerpunkt –Softwaretechnik) from EUAS.
    The SEID program provides the opportunity for one year of study in Germany. Students will spend one semester taking software engineering courses (taught in English), as well as a course in German language with our widely recognized partner institution, EUAS. While in Germany, students will also complete a directed, 100+ day paid software development internship working for major German firms such as:
    • Daimler
    • Bosch
    • IBM
    • Phillips
    • Additional companies related to the auto industry

    Example Course Descriptions

    This program is hosted by the computer and information science (CIS) department, and shares CIS facilities and courses with related majors in the computing and information fields, enabling participation in interdisciplinary and team-based projects. SEID majors take various core computer science and/or software engineering courses, including:

    CIS 277 and 377 (GU): Mobile Application Development I and II (Gannon University)

    Methods and tools for developing mobile applications for integrated devices are introduced and applied. Topics include coding and development on the major mobile platforms, unit testing, source code control, the development of prototype applications.

    WKB 671 (EUAS) Business Intelligence

    Learn about the holistic concepts of intelligent decision support, including implementing theoretical approaches to economic and technical decision support in real systems.

    SWB 642 (EUAS) Information Systems  

    Develop competence for designing and implementing database applications. This includes project work implementing data models,  and assessing the implementation, performance, maintainability and expandability. 

    CIS 317 (GU) Software Maintenance and Deployment (Gannon University)

    Focuses on software maintenance, process, metrics and quality related to the development, improvement and deployment of high-quality software and systems. Includes significant project work where students apply a rigorous process to deploy a refactored software product with improved features and quality.
