GU Advertising Communications Facts
The Gannon Advertising Club provides students with experiences in the advertising field, such as participating in the Advertising Women of New York City Career Conference, and touring some of the world’s largest and most prestigious ad agencies and public relations firms.
Gannon alumni from the advertising communications program work in locations such as New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Phoenix, Washington, D.C., and, of course, Erie.
Qualified juniors at Gannon may choose to pursue an accelerated MBA program and complete both their undergraduate and graduate degrees in just five years, rather than six.
Senior students participate in an internship to acquire hands-on, real world experience.
Major Facts
Employment projections for positions in advertising and public relations through the year 2012 are expected to increase by 21 to 35 percent (growing faster than average for all occupations).
Depending on location, the average starting salary for advertising majors is $29,495.
About the Program
Advertising communications is housed in the School of Business. As part of the business department, students will take core business classes that will better prepare them for the real world. These business basics (finance, accounting and more) will help students better understand the business pressures of their clients and prepare them to someday start, and run, their own business.
Students in the advertising communications program interact with students and professors in the fields of accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, finance, international business, management, marketing, risk management and insurance, and sports management and marketing.
The Dahlkemper School of Business Administration at Gannon has received accreditation from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), making Gannon the first business school in northwestern Pennsylvania with both undergraduate and graduate programs that are nationally accredited.
All Gannon business students have the opportunity to participate in many professional business organizations, including: the Gannon Accounting Club, Student Investment Trust, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, Gannon Advertising Club and the American Marketing Association.
