    June 25-29, 2018 Summer Camp “Near-Space Exploration”: The ECE department is offering a summer Day camp (9 am – 1 pm, M-F) on video streaming techniques for near-space exploration to high school seniors and juniors (grades 11-12 in AY 18-19)).     April 19, 2018 - Congratulations to Kaitlyn Babiarz! Kaitlyn, an ECE senior, accepted a job offer from Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. located in Cranberry Township near Pittsburgh, PA. She will join the company on May 14, 2018 as Design Engineer for the Rolling Start Program. She will spend 2 years working for 6 months in 4 different divisions. The first 18 month, she I will be working in Cranberry Township and the following 6 months at a factory in Japan.

    April 14, 2018 Poster Presentations at Sigma Xi Student Conference: A group of ECE students in sophomore through senior year presented a poster on troubleshooting of complex electronic circuitry of an instrument payload to measure cosmic-rays' energy at near space as part of a NASA-sponsored project.

    April 9, 2018 – Congratulations to Stephen Karpinsky! Stephen, an ECE senior, accepted a job offer from Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. located in Monroeville, PA. He will join the company to work in the engineering areas of instrumentation and control upon graduation or thereafter, as soon as Department of Energy security clearance is granted.

    April 6-7, 2018 - The 2018 IEEE Region 2 Student Activity Conference: Congratulations! Seven ECE undergraduate students and Dr. Yong-Kyu Jung, Associate Professor, attended the 2018 IEEE Region 2 Student Activity Conference held in Pittsburgh, PA. These students competed in the IEEE Student Paper Competition and the Micro Mouse Project Competition -- Kaitlyn Babiarz and Stephen Karpinsky, both ECE senior, received third place for the paper completion; Rachel Amorose (junior), Tenger Batjargal (junior), Niklas Bitters (junior), Keefer Gregoire (freshmen), and Carter Miller (junior) took third place in the Micro Mouse Competition. This was Gannon’s first year participating in the Micro Mouse Competition.

    March 15, 2018 – IEEE Gannon Branch’s Paper Competition: The IEEE branch at Gannon recently held its annual paper competition in Zurn Science Building. Five teams of ECE seniors participated in their senior design projects. ECE juniors were also present to observe as part of their effort to refine their project ideas for the upcoming senior year. The winner of the competition, Solar Charging Station by Kaitlyn Babiarz and Stephen Karpinsky, will represent Gannon in the upcoming 2018 IEEE Region 2 Student Activity Conference.

    March 2018 – Congratulations to Jake Braddock! Jake, an ECE senior, accepted a job offer from Eaton Corporation. Upon graduation in May 2018, he will be joining Eaton Corporation in Asheville, North Carolina, for an engineering leadership development rotational program for the next 2 years.

    February 2018 – Promoting STEM to Local High School Students: Dr. Ramakrishnan Sundaram, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, presented hands-on laboratory-based activities on electrical circuits to eighth grade students at Iroquois High School, Erie, PA on the occasion of their second annual STEM Day which was held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. The event was organized in collaboration with the IU5 office in Edinboro, PA.

    October 2017 – Academic High-Altitude Conference (AHAC): Tenger Batjargal, ECE junior, representing Gannon’s Solar Eclipse Ballooning team, presented one paper and one poster on solar eclipse ballooning at the conference, held during Oct. 27-28, 2018 in Minneapolis, MN. Dr. Wookwon Lee, Associate Professor and Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering, also presented two additional papers at the same conference on ballooning with live video streaming for STEM education and balloon tracking, respectively.

    October 2017 - Frontiers in Education (FIE) Conference: Dr. Ramakrishnan Sundaram, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, presented the paper titled STEM Project Activities for pK-12 Students: What it Takes to Make it Happen,” at the Frontiers In Education (FIE) conference held in Indianapolis, IN, from October 18, 2017 through October 21, 2017.

    August 21, 2017 - Total Solar Eclipse Ballooning: In collaboration with NASA and 50+ other teams across the country, Gannon High Altitude Ballooning Team has completed its mission of successfully capturing live streaming videos and still images of the first total solar eclipse to cross the United States in 38 years.  The eclipse occurred on August 21st, 2017 and Gannon team traveled to Kentucky for its balloon launch and tracking.
